Campbell County's economy is mineral based with over 25 percent of the jobs directly attributed to mining operations in coal mining, oil and gas extraction and supporting operations. The mineral based economy has created a very attractive business climate for other industries. Tax revenue from mineral production has placed the City of Gillette, Campbell County and the State of Wyoming in enviable positions: not in debt and with the ability to meet business' needs in infrastructure, education and programs.
