 Wage Comparison

The mineral industry pays higher average wages than the national average in natural resource sectors and is the wage leader for the area. According to a report by Michael Porter, at the Institute for Strategy and Competitiveness – Harvard Business School, wages in the traded clusters such as manufacturing, and local clusters – such as retail and service, are lower than the national average.

Wyoming ranked 21st in state production per employee while ranking 44th in wages (as reported in Michael Porter’s report to the National Governor’s Association). This is an indicator of the commitment of Wyoming’s companies to investment in technology and production efficiencies and Wyoming residents’ work ethic.
